Chapter Fifteen Travels: Hilton Head, SC

Featured Photo Outfit Details: Swimsuit • Hat Visit Now: The best times to visit are in the late spring and summer. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. In the spring, the island is much less crowded so there’s hardly a wait for restaurants and attractions and very little traffic. However, that’s considered the offseason, so some restaurants aren’t open, making the options a little limited. The summer has the opposite problems, everything is open, but since  ...

Your Path is Okay

I had my life figured out. Get my B.A. in psychology, graduate. Get my masters, graduate. Get my Ph.D., graduate. Move to Boston, work as a clinical psychologist on the psych ward floor at Mass Gen. Meet a doctor in the lunch line of the cafeteria, get married, move to the suburbs, that whole American dream. That was my path. None of that happened. I did graduate with B.A. in psychology but I decided not to go for my masters or Ph.D. I moved back home to Pittsburgh and not to Boston.  ...

Pittsburgh’s Whiskey Moon Boutique

I love a good boutique. That’s a known fact about me. I’m all for shopping at small stores with unique clothes. Anytime I travel, I’m always looking for somewhere new to shop. And I’ve found some amazing places but back here in Pittsburgh, there are just as many cute, local stores to get a boutique fix. The latest one I’ve found is called Whiskey Moon and it’s a cute, trendy store specializing in women’s clothing, home decor, accessories, and  ...

Pumpkin Cupcakes with Homemade Whipped Cream Icing

So here’s a little secret, I don’t like pumpkin pie. It’s nothing against pumpkin pie, I don’t really like pie all that much. I know, I know. Kind of unAmerican right? Well, for all you other pie-dislikers (I know I can’t be the only one out there), who don’t want to be left out on Thanksgiving, here’s a pumpkin cupcake recipe that will (almost) take the place of a pumpkin pie. Or for someone who wants to shake things up or for someone who  ...

Thanksgiving Favorites

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it’s the only one where my entire family is together. Though a lot of my family lives in the same city as me, a good portion lives out of state. I love having everyone come together to celebrate and be thankful for each other and everything we have. The fall color scheme of the decor is gorgeous, everything is warm and cozy, and the food is delicious. I’ll be in the kitchen cooking with my grandma or laughing with my cousins in  ...

Apple Picking and Apple Recipes

This week, I’m in New England celebrating a joint birthday weekend with my best friends and a fall adventure vacation. My first stop was Rhode Island, to visit my friend. It’s the first time I’ve been to this state, and, though small, it’s beautiful this time of year. My first day here, my friend took the train from Boston and met us in Rhode Island. And when trying to figure out how to spend the day, I suggested apple picking. We found an orchard online, set the  ...

Love Your Space, Love Your Work: My New Office

My summer project was turning the spare room into an office. I spent so much of my free time watching HGTV that my hands started itching for a renovation project of my own. I spent three months turning this room into an office where I can write both my books and my blog. This room pre-transformation was a spare, catch-all kind of space. There was a ripped futon, an old desktop computer, broken wicker drawers, and a lot of random stuff: clothes we grew out of, papers from when I was a kid,  ...
