Birthday Post: 23 Things About Me & 23 Birthday Love List

Today is my birthday! So I interrupt the typical style posts to bring you a basic birthday girl post! Twenty-three things about me for my twenty-third birthday! I kind of can't believe that I'm twenty-three. One because, time, wow does it pass. But also because all of my friends are at least six months older than me and are turning twenty-four, so I routinely forget how old I am. While I have to think about it most of the time when somebody asks, I am still excited to be twenty-three! So  ...

A Special Post for Alpha Delta Pi Founders’ Day

On May 15, 1851, Alpha Delta Pi sorority was founded in Macon, Georgia. I’ll spare you all the facts I had to learn as an Alpha member. Four years in this sorority made my college experience like no other. I’ll be honest, I didn’t love every single moment. Some days, I’d rather be in bed than at chapter or watching Netflix instead of at a mandatory event. But more often than not, I loved my time in ADPi. I wasn’t even going to go through recruitment but I got  ...

Your Path is Okay

I had my life figured out. Get my B.A. in psychology, graduate. Get my masters, graduate. Get my Ph.D., graduate. Move to Boston, work as a clinical psychologist on the psych ward floor at Mass Gen. Meet a doctor in the lunch line of the cafeteria, get married, move to the suburbs, that whole American dream. That was my path. None of that happened. I did graduate with B.A. in psychology but I decided not to go for my masters or Ph.D. I moved back home to Pittsburgh and not to  ...

2018 New Year’s Goals

2018 already? I kind of can’t believe it. With a new year comes all the things you hope to do. I’ve never been one for making New Year’s resolutions and trying to stick to them throughout the year.  I think it’s hard, doable, but hard. Instead, this year, I’m setting some goals that I would love to accomplish in 2018. Something about this wording seems a little softer, allowing for more mistakes, letting myself work towards something as opposed to turning a  ...

Being Young and a Dreamer

When I daydream about where I want to go in life, it starts with my writing. My first dream is that I want to publish a book. I want to publish a book and see my name in print and walk into Barnes and Nobel and see my book on the shelf. I want to feel pride and relief that I actually did it. I want my book to make it to the New York Times best-selling list and I want to save the little blurb about it. I want to go on Ellen or maybe The Talk and I want the studio audience to go home with a  ...

Pomp and Circumstance and Stuff Like That

I’m still kind of in shock that graduation is at the end of this week. I’m kind of surprised to what with all the times I said I was going to drop out the last four years. But it’s actually happening in just a couple of days. The last four years have been filled with equal amounts of manic laughter and stress-induced tears. I’ve both called this place home and wished I was back home. Despite my complex relationship with college, I hold all the memories I made and all  ...

Post-Graduation Plans

So I’m a just about a month away from graduation. If we’re being specific (and I have been) it’s 37 days away.  That’s five weeks away. That’s thirteen days of classes away. I won’t lie, as excited as I’ve been for graduation this entire year, I’m a little nervous. School is all I’ve known my entire life. And I know there’s so much more life to live outside of school but there’s something about the routine of it that’s  ...

Cheers to 100!

In 100 days, I will walk across the stage, receive my diploma, and graduate from college. I’ve had a countdown on my phone since the start of senior year and would routinely tell my friends at random intervals, “213 days until graduation.” or “Don’t worry, there are only 170 days until graduation!”Every time I was met with groans and “I don’t want to talk about it”s  and “I can’t believe it!”s. As much as I have been  ...

I Want to Write Forever

At one point in my life, I wanted to move to Boston and be a clinical psychologist. I had it all planned out. I would live in a cute little apartment while I got my Ph.D. and eventually did a residency at Mass Gen. Why Boston? That’s where I wanted to go to college but didn’t get accepted. But I had visited the city and completely fallen in love. In my extended reverie, I was going to meet my future husband in the hospital cafeteria. He was going to be some kind of doctor. We  ...
